below are two of many songs that the two collaborated on. the first, bonnie and clyde is wonderful primarily due to gainsbourg's attempt to properly pronounce "bonnie and clyde." never has someone sounded so french trying to sound so english.
the second song titled, "je t'aime...moi, non plus" was a more controversial record. the song, whose title literally translates to "i love you...me neither" refers to two lovers who converse during an intimate encounter. it was originally written by gainsbourg to this girlfriend at the time, brigitte bardot, who lent her vocals. however, ms. saint tropez was actually MRS. saint tropez, bardot was married to a german businessman at the time and begged and pleaded with gainsbourg not to release the song. being the charming french man that he was, gainsbourg complied. years later the song was released, banned by practically everyone and eventually embraced all over the globe, resulting in numerous covers. however, the original still remains le meilleur
