school cometh

it has been quite an eventful week.

1. school has started! Well, I should add that i went to my economics class on Tuesday, sat in class and watched a janitor lady provide me a pity smile while she said "dear, you know that school starts tomorrow, right?" and i sat there with a blank stare, thinking of all of the hours i could have spent sleeping in and responded, "uhh yeah" packed up and ran out.

but today school actually started, the froshies have immersed themselves, i cannot no longer pin point them, but i think that is a generational thing because last years frosh looked like they were getting ready for middle school. anyway, i may or may not have hit on a guy in my french class this morning, a few minutes later during the obligatory introductions, he said, "je suis dans ma premiere annee" - yeah, i hit on a frosh. sigh. the sigh is not because he was a frosh, it was because, finding out he was a frosh didn't stop me from flirting. yeah, i'm that kind of person.

i've decided to spend most of my study time in coffee shops rather than libraries this year. so yesterday provided me with a great opportunity to scope out some places and pick a winner. I ended up choosing second cup because of its proximity (on bloor, minutes from class), the music was great (blitzen trapper!!!) and most importantly, i was able to steal the Internet connection from the above Hyatt hotel, stickin' it to the man, one crime at a time :)

2. (re)discovered my love for the kings of leon - i should say (re)discovered because my brother, quite a few years ago (i think 3) introduced me to this band but i brushed them aside because at that time i belonged to the church of the strokes and no one was going to test my faith, not even some "kings of leon" But my friend caitie, lured me to their youtube videos, that are pretty much home videos, like when blink 182 filming their last album. well, long story short i gave these Tennessee boys another listen and BAM! I'm hooked. (thanks, caitie!)

3. computer updates - okay, this might not seem like too much of a deal but it is for me because my macbook has been disorganized for so long, i usually take the summer to organize everything to perfection on my mac, because if I'm not organized in reality, gosh darn it i will be organized virtually. but since this summer all i did was more research and even more work, i didn't get that opportunity. I bought iLife 09 - on the iPhoto application, it recognizes people's faces and so if you want to see all of your photos with a particular person, you can!! exciting, except that it literally finds everyone - even the randoms, who always look into the camera and look surprised, as if they've never seen this strange flashing device before.

ummmmm now i'm sitting in the arbor room cafe waiting for a friend and then tonight is martini night with some other friends. should be fun.

OH! and, that photo above, well i discovered a website where you place two people's pictures and you can see what their child could look like. yeah, you read that right. i told you, i'm that person.
so that child is the product of a beautiful night between myself and Caleb Followill (haha, Caitie when i first wrote that i wrote "Jared" -- hmm, Freudian slip, methinks?)

lots of (extra-marital) love ;)

Hi, this is pavel from TD Canada Trust

so for the past few weeks my friend and fellow blogette caitie has been complainnig about the excessive phone calls she receives from a canadian bank called Toronto Dominion Canada (TD for short) They called her to perform surveys and even to sell her life insurance - because she, as all students, having no steady income and no one to support is the prime and ideal customer for life insurance policies, right? - hope you can feel the sarcasm

anyway, yesterday she was over and telling me about how she had had enough and finally blew up on a nice estonian lady that called her on behalf of TD and asked to be removed from their call list.

Now, you shoudl know that Caitie is usually very composed and incredibly diplomatic, so the mere thought of her blowing up on an ant gives me doubts, let alone an actual person.

long story short, i had to find out for myself.

prank wars ensues

i'm working at the reception today, my last day of my summer job/internship. My brother came in as well to watch a movie in my mom's amazing office with a huge screen. I asked him to come over to reception, i dialed caitie's number and asked him to say the following:

"hi, this is Pavel on behalf of TD Canada Trust, I see here that you requested we call you back regarding the purchaseof a life insurance policy with TD"

I then quickly grabbed the phone out of his hands and listened to her reaction which was LEGEN-WAIT FOR IT-DARY!!!

Boy was she understating her ability to freak out. This was her response, keep in mind that she was yelling at the top of her lungs

"no i did not ask you to call me back..." and the rest i do no remember because i was bursting out laughing trying to get out "it's ivana, it's ivana" but i didn't have time because she slammed the phone down and hung up.

i really do feel like a frat boy, after pulling the best prank involving a wedgie, so satisfied.

what a way to enter the weekend.

caitie, the ball, m'dear is in your court

oh and visit caitie here, her blog is a wittier version of mine.

(virtual) grrr.....

gmail is down.

ugh.

modern technology, why must you betray me time after time?

yet i always come back.

i definitely googled "gmail down?" because i like to feel like i am not alone, and i was happy to find out that gmail is in fact down for the entire world wide web.
an article mentioned that the twittersphere was going crazy about the gmail breakdown. i was scrolling through all of the tweets and one said "gmail is DOWN, this reminds me when twitter was down and i hate to use gchat to say that twitter was down"

i laughed, (okay gave my elitist smirk) and thought "oh you poor, poor Internet obsessed soul, get outside for a bit, it'll do you good" now i realize that i'm writing a post on my blog about gmail being down which is the same thing (errr worse?) than that poor soul....i am the poorer soul
okay and now as i finish this post, that song, called "the one" by that 8 year old is playing, LOVE that song.
PEACCCEEEEE

shoes, wilco, jogging

i got new shoes!

'bout to go for a jog. it is the ideal time to go for a jog. why, you ask? because it is before 5pm this means that the everyone is still at work, so i can dress in my oversized (not one size bigger, more like xxl on a normally medium frame - yeah, sexy) and also because it was raining and the sky is gloomy which reminds me of those drama films, where there is a scene of the main character in a grey hoodie, running though some new jersey suburb, with at least one tattoo, and it is always rainy and gloomy. yup, that's who i aspire to be

also did i mention NEW SHOES! one of my toes looks messed up in one pic because it itched and i moved it while the picture was taken. and that was your TMI of the day

love

also, i've been listening to a lot of wilco lately

sweaty afternoons

our air con has broken down.

i feel like one of those models (ha!) in those perfume commercials, in a hot and humid havana hotel room, with the sweat pouring down and then spritzing on a dash of chanel.

well let me tell you, in reality it is not as glamorous. instead of becoming chic after dabbing on chanel, i become increasingly sticky

and there is no hot guy in the next hotel room who mysteriously listens through the paper thin walls.

there is only my freaky out of work neighbour who stares out of her window hoping to catch a glimpse of my father, with whom she is hopelessly in love with.

speaking of glamorous commercials, the one below is one of my all time favourites.

diplomacy points!

exam chic .... in the ghetto

i'm just waiting for my pita torta to finish in the oven. it should be called a mexican cake because it requires all of the ingredients of a mexican taco but all of the soft shells are layered with sour cream in the middle

whilst i wait, i thought i would share a little societal crisis that is currently ensuing

exam chicness.

yesterday i finished my last exam of the summer and whilst i waited i was looking over all of my notes, underlining a few points. but my eyes scanned the room and they were none too please. initially, i assumed that my eyes were deceiving me, surely punishing me for punishing them by depriving them of more than 3 hours of sleep in the last two days. but alas, they did not lie.

the horror they were witnessing? the majority of the students were incredibly well dressed, the girls even had the decency to put on make up (and it was applied that morning, not the "oops last night turned out out be a one night stand night, i guess last night's make up will have to do" or "oops i'm lying in my own vomit, but i have to get to work in 10 minutes so last night's mascara will have to disguise itself as fresh" I'm talking, fresh faces. no baggy eyes, no clumps of old mascara, no case of mismatched socks, NADA.

I mean COME ON people, how dare you?!?!

there i was, with my sweats and an ill fitting hood, hair in a bun to hide the fact that it had not been washed for 3 days (read: maybe more, but you can't make me tell you how much more) and shaking with the cold chills from what i assume was my 900% daily does of vitamin C Jugo Juice.

Meanwhile both of the girls in front of me, had full on manicures (let's just say i was wearing my runners for a reason), hair perfectly done or if it wasn't, it was that "effortless effort" where they spend hours making it look effortless, and clothing that is or was recently trendy (that's right, i'm looking at you girl with the uggs)

had i not been thinking that i would die from the jugo juice (literally, i had a cold sweat after consuming all of it) i would have given each and everyone one of them death stares. but instead, i rushed to the washroom, under the impression that i was suffering a slow death from the jugo juice.

the baggy eyes from no sleep, frizzled hair from tying it in bun after bun while studying, those things are a rite of passage, people! how dare you think you can just coast on by with your little purses and lip glossed lips, where are the coffee-stained notes? where?!?!?!?!?

update: wrote this post on friday, it is now sunday, had an AMAZING WEEKEND so far. today is the 32 anniversary of elvis' death, so i'll leave you with a classic from the king himself, a tune that reminds me of a time i once lived in the ghetto....mississauga.

in the ghetto - elvis presley

bo, illegal behaviour

study break!!!

opened up youtube and saw this little jem in my subscription bar

bo burnham, if you are not aware, is an exceptionally talented and hilarious youtuber, he is wittier in one song than i hope to be in my cumulative life. absolutely hilarious!

I'm also kinda in love with him which is not weird at all because we have a lot in common. for example, i'm going into my fourth year of university and he's going to his fourth year....of high school

uhhh iffy...but not illegal

also "iffy but not illegal" will be the motto of my law firm. caitie will translate it into latin so that i can sound classy (ha! yeah i know what you're thinking, really? can you get any classier? is that even possib-well let me stop you there no, no its not but caitie's latin class has to come to some use and i'm just generous)

kisssss kissss

oh and don't even begin with that "omg why didn't you embed the video?!? why do i have to go all the way to youtue?" you lazy lazy LAZY person..lazy and ungrateful

academic musing

found a great article about proportional representation and the possibility of implementing in Canada, it is very concise and clear.

read it, it's your civic duty. okay maybe not, but i enjoyed it

it is HERE

this will be my wedding song

affiars with hand creams, racism, one hit wonders

so a close friend of mine just returned from her european vacation and got me nivea cosmetics!! it is no secret among those who know me that i will not leave the house without a tub of nivea hand cream.

my relationship with nivea started early in my life (if that sentence scares you, stop reading now) since then, i have been faithful to nivea and have never tried another hand cream, walked by the body shop a few times, all tempted, hot and bothered but i kept walking. okay, well that is a lie (the being faitful bit) but for a few years all i knew was nivea. in eastern europe, they literally (read: vast exageration) do not sell anything else. but by the time i decided that my relationship with nivea was suffocating and decided to branch out and see other people (read: hand creams), i was already trapped, immune to the soft and silky feel that it had on my palms. nothing else could come close.

after my attempted affairs i came home, walked to the washroom, grabbed that blue tub of nivea and looked at it with shame and slathered it on my hands. it looked so smug, surely thinking "i knew you'd come back, it was only a matter of time"

so i looked for a commercial for nivea cosmetics and found the one above, which brings me to my second point (oh look at me being all organizational and having literary flow - hm maybe not) those "kiss me i'm _____ (insert nationality)" sayings upset me, primarily because they are racist. I mean, are you implying that i should kiss you because of your nationality?

first off, who is kissing you that you would need to justify your reasoning for asking for a kiss? if your husband/wife/partner is kissing you only if you justify why they should do it then you need to send them to AA (Asexuals Annonymous) Second, is using your nationality really going to be effective? i mean "kiss me, i'm no longer a heroin addict" or "kiss me, i passed my GED at 40" those are real reasons for a smooch. Using your nationality? How very anti-globalziation of you.

ok maybe i'm just bitter because i can't relate, i've never seen a t-shirt that read "kiss me, i'm ....well from a country that no longer exists"

also, my last point (there's that literary flow), when i googled "nivea" the first thing that came up was the one hit wonder singer nivea who sang "don't mess with my man"

it's sorta my anthem ...

at the liiiiiiibrary part 2

on a less random note, i am currently studying in the library. it is raining cows and sheep (the cats and dogs expression is so yesterday) and i am munching on shortbread and sipping black tea. i think i've found my heaven.

did i mention i have a study room to myself? did i mention that the study room has one wall that is completely glass and that as a result, i can see the rain? did i mention that the library was surrounded by trees?

daily dose of 'Huh??"

what is this?

at the liiiiiiibrary

i'm in the library for the second time today.

the first time i thought i came prepared but i was a bit chilly,

but i'm back with a vengeance.

by vengeance i mean a sweater.

also, whenever i think of the word 'library" i think it in a horrible british...well more like cockney accent

i'm listening to la roux - in for kill

toodles!!!

friday!!!
